It was a rainy night in Louisiana for New Year's Eve, but Grand Funk brought a starry night to Delta Downs Casino Event Center in Vinton.
What a great year for GFR and what a terrific way to celebrate the end of 2016...with a party in one of Grand Funk's favorite strongholds, Louisiana!

Hoping to see you all on the road in 2017!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Grand Funk returned to Harris, Michigan, and Island Casino Resort for the third time in twelve years with a "Sold Out Show". Bringing to a near close of a record setting year for a GFR, this was a terrific way for the guys to head into a well-deserved break.
In the twelve plus years that Grand Funk has been traveling to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (UP), flying to nearby Escanaba has become increasingly more difficult and the nearest airport is Green Bay Wisconsin, a two hour drive away. Not so difficult when flying in the day before a show, but catching a 7am flight out after the show makes for a very short night's sleep.
Grand Funk played two nights in Harris. The crowd of "Yuppers" loved Michigan's own American Band and actually charged the stage each night when GFR broke into the opening bass line of "Some Kinda Wonderful".
The band and crew posed for their annual group photo and congratulated each other on an exceptional 2016. This was Grand Funk's best year in the past twenty considering number of shows, grosses, and attendance.
And here comes 2017! Come rock on New Year's Eve with Grand Funk in Vinton, LA!
After a great 9 days out west, GFR flew east to Boston, MA, to play the historic Topsfield Fair, "The Oldest Fair In America". Drawing over 500,000 visitors each year, the fair hosts concerts by national talent and this year brought Grand Funk Railroad to the main stage.
Topsfield is a gorgeous affluent suburb about 15 miles from Boston on what is called "The North Shore".

Grand Funk played to a record setting crowd and had the place rockin'! It was a beautiful fall evening in New England and everybody, including the band, had a great time.
Talk about "Out On The Road", GFR was truly on the road this week with 5 shows in 9 days! It kicked off with a sold out show at the Rising Star Casino Resort in Rising Sun, Indiana.
GFR then headed way out west for a huge show with the band Chicago at the LA County Fair in Pomona, CA. The capacity audience on the closing night of the fair to see two iconic bands from the 70's was primed and ready when GFR took the stage.
Playing a "just the hits" high energy Grand Funk Railroad Rock and Roll show, GFR captured the night and had the crowd on their feet the entire show.

The band got to kick back for a couple days in LA and then drove out to Bakersfield, CA, for a show at the Kern County Fair. Having to drive two and a half hours through a dust storm (their first ever dust storm), GFR played another great show for an enthusiastic crowd.
On the 29th, the gang had a fly day to travel out of LAX through Salt Lake City and ended up in Pasco, WA, where they would base operations for back-to-back shows in Yakima, WA and Lewiston, ID.
9/30 saw Grand Funk headlining the main stage at The Central Washington State Fair. To a capacity crowd on a beautiful Washington early fall evening, Grand Funk had the crowd on their feet from the beginning to the end of a great GFR show.

On 10/1, the guys took a very scenic two and a half hour drive to the Event Center at the Clearwater River Casino Resort in Lewiston, Idaho. GFR rocked the house, and many attending the show were taken back to their teens with great memories triggered by Grand Funk Railroad tunes.

This was a great nine day run for GFR.
It definitely goes down in our Best Of "Out On The Road"!
Biloxi Hard Rock Live "SOLD OUT"
Biloxi is the heart of "The Poor Man's Riviera". Situated on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and dominated by Shrimp Boats & Oyster Luggers, it's now a gambling mecca for the Southern USA and has many famous casino complexes.
The Hard Rock, Beau Rivage, Casino Magic, Grand Casino, and the Golden Nugget all have a presence here. Hit hard in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina, 90% of the buildings along the Gulf Coast in Biloxi were destroyed. Today, Biloxi has rebuilt and rejuvenated.
GFR played the great Hard Rock Live on Saturday to a Sold Out standing-room-only house, and the boys tore it up again. The South loves Grand Funk and Grand Funk loves the South!
So many Southern fans tell the story that Grand Funk was their first "Rock Concert Experience" in the 70s!

After another well deserved break in their extremely busy 2016 tour schedule, Grand Funk fired it up again at Wisconsin's incredible "House Of Harley" facility in rockin' Milwaukee.
The venue, set up on the enormous House Of Harley property, featured a full concert stage with state of the art sound and lights and enough space and seating for 4,000 Harley enthusiasts.
One of the largest Harley dealerships in the world, House of Harley has earned more awards than any other dealership.
GFR took the stage Friday night and rocked the enthusiastic "Cheeseheads" with a great GFR show featuring all the hits. The weather was perfect as the northern Midwest heads into fall.

Another incredible night in 2016 for Grand Funk Railroad!
Grand Funk played at the Laredo Energy Center as this year's headliner for the benefit of the South Texas Food Bank. Getting the crowd all cranked up with Footstompin" Music and dancing to The Locomotion, the $500 a plate donation was a small price to pay for such a worthy cause. Even though the unemployment rate in the Laredo metropolitan area is below 4%, the poverty rate is over 35%. It was awesome to see so many of the "haves" helping out so many of the "have nots".
Way to go, Texas!

Another weekend on the east coast for GFR this week with two benefit concerts in upstate New York. Grand Funk drew a huge crowd for their show at Vernon Downs Raceway Friday night and the New York crowd loved it. The humidity had to be 90% and the boys had the audience on their feet the entire show. All proceeds for this show were donated to the New York Food Bank and the owner, Jeff Gural, matched the amount!

Great night! Great cause!
On Saturday, Grand Funk moved to Nichols at the Tioga Downs Raceway for another benefit concert, this time for the New York State Veterans of Foreign Wars Association. With a capacity crowd nearly 5,000, again the owner Jeff Gural equaled the ticket sales for a tremendous donation for the Vets.

What a wonderful weekend for Grand Funk Railroad!
GFR was back on the East coast this week for back-to-back shows.
Playing to a full house at the historic Ridgefield
Playhouse, the guys had them dancing in the aisles. The Ridgefield
Playhouse is a fully restored performing arts center built in 1938. It
now hosts everything from Shakespeare and comedians (Ron White and
Robert Klein) to music greats such as Greg Allman, The Doobie Brothers
and Grand Funk Railroad.

Great acoustics and not a bad seat in the house!
On Sunday afternoon, GFR returned for it's sixth appearance at the Indian Ranch Amphitheater located on beautiful "Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggaggugchaubunagungamaugg"!

Taking a quick 30 minute flight to Dayton, OH from Detroit on Saturday, GFR rolled into a "SOLD OUT" Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, a suburb of Dayton. Celebrating it's 25th anniversary as a national concert venue, Fraze is a magical place to experience a show. Grand Funk Railroad first played Fraze in 1996 on their Reunion Tour.

A Great Weekend Back On The Road.
Flying into the incredible Denver International Airport is like entering a Sci Fi Indian Reservation after indulging in some of the local legal cannibis edibles. The look of the airport resembles huge teepees out in the middle of the Colorado Plains. Grand Funk entered the mile high aviation hub for their show in Fort Morgan, 84 miles northeast of Denver.
Celebrating its ninth anniversary of the 2016 "Bobstock Music Festival", GFR drew a record-setting crowd of thousands to the event. The festival gets it's name from "Bob FM", the local classic rock radio station owned by a Fort Morgan family...probably one of the last "Mom and Pop" radio stations existing in the USA.
The American Band had the town singin' and sweatin' to all the classic GFR hits.

Got to love this great country America!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!
And what a way to celebrate in Miami Beach, on the beach, with The American Band...Grand Funk Railroad. Fourth of July fireworks in Miami are spectacular, watching the sky light up above the ocean in a stunning array of colors and sparks...a stirring reflection of what our country stands for.

Grand Funk took the waterfront stage at North Shore Park, and the sea of revelers along Collins Avenue celebrated the birth of the greatest country on earth with one of the greatest rock bands on earth.

The three day festival draws in excess of 250,000 people annually and is among the top festivals in the USA. Originating in 1958, the festival has grown and now occupies the entire downtown area of Des Moines.

Grand Funk headlined on the main stage Saturday night and the huge record-setting crowd of Iowans loved it. Opening with their now-signature intro song "Bottle Rocket" and segueing into GFR classics "Rock N' Roll Soul" and "Footstompin' Music", downtown Des Moines rocked as the sun went down. Singing along to "Locomotion", "Some Kinda Wonderful", "Closer To Home" and "We're An American Band", the heartland knows how to have a good time!

Grand Funk traveled to the West Coast this week for an appearance at the historic Del Mar Fair in beautiful Del Mar, California. Playing to an enthusiastic crowd of all ages at the Del Mar Grandstands, GFR's show was a SMASH!
The Del Mar Fair is the largest annual event in southern California and draws over a million and a half visitors. Grand Funk's concert was part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series featuring nationally known entertainers each night on the "Heineken Grandstand Stage".
The crowd rocked to GFR's many hits, and by the end of the show had flooded the front of the stage while singing along to "Some Kinda Wonderful", "Closer To Home", and "We're An American Band".

This was Grand Funk's 6th concert at the Del Mar Fair in the last 20 years and just as memorable as the first.
Gotta love it!
"The Secret City"!!
After another great "Sold Out Show" in Louisiana, GFR moved over to the production site of the famed "Manhattan Project" in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Known as "The Secret City" due to its hidden involvement in the massive American, British and Canadian operation that developed the atomic bomb during WWII. It is still the site of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

On Saturday night, all the GLOW was on the stage when Grand Funk "lit up" the huge crowd at the 14th Annual Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge. The record breaking audience rocked to GFR's high energy all-hits Rock 'n Roll show and "came to town to help party it down"! From "R&R Soul" to "American Band", the Tennesseans were smiling and sweating along with the band and loving every minute of it.

SOLD OUT AGAIN!!
Grand Funk and Louisiana have a "thing goin' on" in 2016. This is the fourth show GFR has done in "The Bayou State" this year and it probably won't be the last.
Playing The Golden Nugget Casino Event Center in Lake Charles, the capacity crowd of Louisianans loved every minute of it. Don, Mel, Max, Bruce and Tim rocked the house!
Lake Charles is the most humid city in the USA and is Louisiana's fifth largest city located on Lake Charles, Prien Lake, and the Calcasien River. It is a major center for petrochemical refining, gaming, tourism and education, being home to McNeese State University.

Landing on the East Coast for a back to back weekend, GFR played Peekskill, NY, home of Crayola Products and Fleishmann's Yeast. Located along the east side of the Hudson River in Westchester County, Grand Funk claimed the stage at the historic Paramount Theatre. This was the second appearance for GFR at the Paramount in nine months after having a tremendous response from their first show, and once again the boys "Rocked The House". The New York crowd ate it up!
Way out west in California, GFR traveled from Sacramento to the gorgeous foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and played a sold-out show at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort. Located in picturesque Northern California, It’s a beautiful casino in the once-vibrant gold mining town of Jackson, birthplace of wine barron Ernest Gallo.
Grand Funk's fans were ready and willing to rock the Grand Oak Theatre, and the band loved every minute of it.

The guys attended a pre-show "meet and greet" for twenty of the casino's VIPs and then signed dozens of autographs on items displayed on a long table in their dressing room.

Another incredible evening on the 2016 Grand Funk Railroad American Band Tour!
If you're a "Duck Dynasty" fan, you're familiar with
West Monroe, the Louisiana town in Ouachita Parish, home of the infamous
Robertson clan…and also hometown of 12-time NBA Allstar and 5-time MVP
for the Boston Celtics, Bill Russell.
Grand Funk flew into Monroe and was picked up at the airport in a huge black "Party Bus", reminiscent of stale cigarettes and mildew. After an adventurous drive into West Monroe, they spent the night across the street from the IKE Convention Center, site of the Second Annual "Gator and Crawfish Festival", where GFR would rock the Duck Dynasty fans like they never rocked before. It was a huge festival crowd under a beautiful sliver of the new "Mother's Moon". The band was treated to Gator Kabobs and fresh steamed crawfish after the show and called it an early night.

Leaving the hotel at 4 a.m. the next morning, the seasoned"Party Bus" nearly broke down leaving the band and crew scrambling for taxi cabs to make their flights. The driver finally determined the door was jammed, causing the malfunction. After a quick fix, off they rambled to the airport. All in all, it was another terrific 2016 GFR Tour stop in "Gator Land"!

GFR was "Out On The Road" again this week with two back-to-back shows way up north. Meeting in Buffalo, NY, Grand Funk motored to the wonderful Pennsylvania town of Warren, about 98 miles southwest of Buffalo. Playing the historic Struther's Theatre, built in 1883 as a Victorian Opera House, Grand Funk rocked the capacity crowd and enthusiastic fans with an inspired show featuring all the classic hits. The Struther's Theatre has been modified several times and now hosts everything from Broadway musicals to rock and country entertainers. The band looked and sounded incredible, having had a nice 10-day break in their busy 2016 schedule.

Next week, back down south to Louisiana!
"Way Down In The Bayou"
Grand Funk headed down south on Saturday for a fantastic show on the river in Historic Natchitoches, Louisiana. The oldest town in Louisiana established in 1714 as part of "French Louisiana", the community was named after the indigenous Natchitoches people.
Natchitoches was a trading post on the Red River for trade with Spanish-controlled Mexico. Having been the site of many Civil War battles, the area was the center of the Confederate Cotton Industry that helped sustain the Confederacy during the war. Natchitoches was also the site of the 1973 plane crash that claimed the life of legendary singer Jim Croce.

Following a terrific weekend at The Badlands in South Dakota and The Grand Casino in Oklahoma, Grand Funk headed west for yet another “Sold-Out Standing-Room-Only" show at the historic Golden Nugget Casino Showroom in downtown Las Vegas.
The Golden Nugget first opened 70 years ago and was the largest and most luxurious Casino in downtown Vegas. Named after the world's largest gold nugget found in Australia weighing 62 pounds and called "The Hand of Faith", the nugget is on display to the public at the casino.
In the past 60 years, the historic Showroom at the Golden Nugget has seen performances by all of the show business greats including the one and only Frank Sinatra. The Golden Nugget is at the epicenter of the unbelievable "Fremont Street Experience" that features street performers, the overhead SlotZilla Zipline, concerts on three stages, and probably one of the greatest light shows on earth that runs the entire five blocks of Fremont Street.

Grand Funk Rocked The Badlands!
GFR flew to Wichita, Kansas, for the second time in a

Built in 1929, the 1,400 seat movie palace was one of the largest of its
time, attracting many famous performers and traveling vaudeville acts.
The Spanish Colonial style was popular in the 1920’s, but like many
grand old movie palaces of the era, the Granada's popularity declined in
the 1960's and 70's. Due to neglect, the theater suffered years of
damage from roof leaks. Placed on the National Register of
Historic Places, the Kansas Preservation Alliance saved the Granada from
demolition and has restored its original beauty while also updating its
technology, so the Granada is now a keystone facility attracting touring
country, rock, jazz and folk artists from across the nation.

Saturday night, Grand Funk played to a near capacity audience and
brought the crowd to its feet repeatedly bringing the 1920's, 1970's and
today together for a "Grand Funk Night" in Kansas!
After a well deserved three week break, Grand Funk resumed their 2016 "American Band Tour" in Lincoln, RI, just outside beautiful downtown Providence. Playing the Twin River Casino, GFR rocked the "Sold Out" Event Center like it was 1973. The crowd loved hearing the familiar hits Locomotion, Some Kinda Wonderful, Closer To Home and We're An American Band as well as the many Grand Funk staples they have not heard in a while like Inside Lookin' Out and Footstompin' Music.
Grand Funk Railroad's performance at Twin River is another wonderful addition to the string of sold out shows in 2016.

About 60 miles North of Sacramento, Grand Funk played the Gold Country Casino Event Center to a sold out crowd. They were all on their feet from the opening to the close of the show.
California has always been a great market for Grand Funk and the show brought both old and new fans together to see another outstanding high energy Grand Funk performance.
Next week...... New Orleans and the Mardi Gras Ball!!!
"Rock Legends Cruise 2016" with Peter Frampton, Greg Allman and Grand Funk Railroad (plus more) on the ship Independence Of The Seas.
Grand Funk played the first night of the cruise in the main venue to a standing room only crowd and brought the house down. Fighting with technical issues due to the number of acts and the limited time between bands, GFR was still able to bring the sold out crowd to its feet for the entire show.
The first night success of Grand Funk became the talk of the ship and everywhere the band members went, they were congratulated and asked for pictures and autographs. The second show on 1/22 had to be moved from the "on deck" venue to an alternate inside theater due to high winds and rain. GFR still played a great show.
The final show was again back in the main venue and again standing room only with many of the other artists and bands attending to see the terrific Grand Funk show that was being talked about shipwide. What a great Rock Adventure it was for all the artists and fans.
What a great place for a show in beautiful Palm Springs California. Outside venue with a great stage, PA, lights, and also big screen TV's on each side of the stage.
Grand Funk played an outstanding 80 minute show to a huge crowd at Spa Resort Casino, including all the hits Footstompin' Music, Rock and Roll Soul, Shinin' On, Locomotion, Some Kinda Wonderful, Closer To Home, and of course, We're an American Band.
Nice way to kick off 2016!
